On January 15, 2019, DSK Bank EAD, the Bulgarian subsidiary of OTP Bank, finalized the acquisition of Societe Generale Expressbank AD and its subsidiaries in Bulgaria. Until the completion of the integration process, which is planned to continue until 2020, the two institutions will continue to operate as two independent banks per owner. Until then, Societe Generale Expressbank will operate under the name and trademark Expressbank. The names of the subsidiaries are also changed as follows: Sogeliz Bulgaria is already OTP Leasing, Sozialife Bulgaria Insurance Company is Express Life Insurance, and Société Générale Factoring - Express Factoring.
The merger of the two banks will mark the creation of the largest and strongest banking institution on the Bulgarian market that will offer a full range of modern financial products and services. Upon completion of the integration process, the new banking organization will be the first in terms of number of offices, size of deposits and loan portfolio size in Bulgaria and will move closer to the top position by asset size.
